Paper Paintings

This series began back in 2011 when I was crumpling and tossing away sketch papers in my studio. I'd been using patterned wrapping paper as backgrounds, foregrounds and folded pedestals for my figurine still lifes. I swerved into this new thread of ideas when I suddenly became aware how beautiful the discarded, crumpled paper shapes were. The shapes took me in an entirely new direction. I became fascinated with the random forms within each crumpled piece.

Often in life I feel like the crumpled piece of paper, bent, worn and pretty much discarded. Your work shows how important each piece, each bend, and each crease really is in our lives and in making us beautiful and wise human beings. Thank you for bringing that remembrance to me.
